Tirari e Alzari: Construction Machines (Leonardo Da Vinci) Details

“Tirari” e “Alzari” is the first volume in a collection whose aim is to examine in depth the engineering and scientific studies of Leonardo da Vinci. In the Middle Ages, “Tirari” e “Alzari” were the terms used to identify systems for raising and moving large objects, such as machines for lifting columns and cranes, for lifting obelisks and winches, lifting devices and all those machines known and developed by engineers to help them carry out their profession.

Reviews

This is a wonderful book on Renaissance cranes and technology in general. The machine drawings are mostly by Leonardo da Vinci, seem mostly unknown research works. There are also researches by Brunelleschi, the great Renaissance engineer. There is a also a bizarre lifting device working by pyrotechnics (gun powder). It would be worth having just for the quality of the photographic materials.
