Paintings of Leonardo da Vinci Details

This is a collection of twenty two paintings by Leonardo da Vinci with descriptions and dates.Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance man, a man whose unquenchable curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived. According to art historian Helen Gardner, the scope and depth of his interests were without precedent and "his mind and personality seem to us superhuman, the man himself mysterious and remote".

Reviews

Many of Leonardo's most famous works, including the ones presented herein, are not to be found in Florence or even elsewhere in Italy. Instead, you need to go to the Louvre, the British Museum, or other major world-class museum. Of course, the Louvre has an outstanding collection, including La Gioconda (Mona Lisa) plus six other outstanding works. And truthfully, you'll get a much better look at La Gioconda on your Kindle than you'll ever get in the Louvre, simply because you cannot get very close to the painting unless you're handicapped. Otherwise, the guards keep you a good 15 feet back. However, the museum's other Leonardos are very approachable, and the two versions of the Madonna of the Rock are only separated by 400 miles or so.I'm not convinced that Leonardo's reputation as a painter is quite as deserved as his genius as a polymath or engineer. His widely ranging interests kept him from spending slightly less time on his art than it truly deserved: by the time he finished the underwriting. I suspect he often had begun to lose interest in completing a work -- I know that is a problem for me (and, while I am an artist, I am not nearly as good as he was, and my interests are probably at least as diverse and my IQ only 30 or 40 percent less than his).Sitting down and studying Leonardo's work can help anyone appreciate all art more. I highly recommend such time as well-known.
